Pathways for the social impact of research in Barcelona's tourism policy

Purpose This paper aims to analyse Barcelona City Council's tourism policy documents detect how, through the influence of research, different pathways are produced achieve social impact. Design/methodology/approach Using case study approach, a qualitative content analysis is applied review 31 Council. Findings The results show that research on occurs following drive potential impact: development shared programmes, joint projects, creation information exchange platforms, support for academia, debates, founding institutes, referencing scientific articles and studies commissioned directly by Council from higher education bodies implementation in city.
